Women's Studies
Women are inherently connected with cycles. Just as women experience monthly cycles, like the moon, so too we bear witness each cycle to the order in the world, to a cycle of life and death that is not all glorious, and is not complete exactly. It is a living, moving, changing life.
There is a prophecy among Native Americans that when women will return their blood to the earth then blood will not be shed on the earth anymore - implying a direct connection between the sanctity of our cycles and world peace.
During 'lunar time' ie menstruation, it is a slower time, representing the new moon, a feminine moment to remember our sacred bodies and lives. The New Moon is considered a holiday for the females and a time for women's gatherings #redtent, creating a space for prayer, study and mutual support.
On the opposite end of the month is a lunar full moon expression of outward energy and communal gatherings. Gatherings are an important part of life - being around other humans is electrifying to us. Jewish Holidays very often fall on full moons. It is the time of ovulation - the possibility of procreation and the urge towards unification.
As we pray and work towards peace as much as we are capable of, it is necessary to take a moment and reflect on the beauty and order in life - which is conscious and present for relationship in every way imaginable.
